The value of education
0I was on a forum the other day talking to a guy who was good at Google Adwords but only had $1000 to start his business.
The poor guy was agonising over whether he should buy $1000 worth of phone covers to sell.
Now as you know I'm all about the education. You'll never encounter a problem where less education is going to be the solution.
I was helping this guy consider some other other , lower risk business strategies and then…
some other bloke butted in and started complaining about “information products”. It was unbelieveable!
It was amazing to me that someone like that would throw $150,000 at a university education just so they could get a job that pays $60k a year yet was complaining about spending a few hundred bucks on some information that could make him potentially millions.
He was on and on about selling physical products and making out that they had more value than information products.
I dunno if you've ever heard this concept:
… they say that if you took all the money in the world and evenly distributed it amongst all the people so that everyone had the same amount… within a year the same people who have all the money now would have it all back again and the same people who were poor now would be poor again…
Why?
Education & knowledge!
You can take $500 and buy an ipad, or you could buy some nice new clothes and then the money would be spent – gone!
Or you could invest in your education, the returns of which could return your money 10x over and more.
I can guarantee that that bloke would be back on a forum somewhere, broke and complaining… again!
It all comes down to priorities…
Do you value the personal growth and the increased potential that you have when you educate yourself or would you rather spend your money on shiny things that give you a cheap thrill for a while.
That's exactly why I am so passionate about education. That's exactly why I am not running a Harvey normal franchise.
Earlier this week I gave you some direction about using Amazon to publish and market a book and a tips or two about how to actually write a book.
Everyone has skills that would benefit others – you included, and when you put that information down in a format that can be shared and that can be sold then you are contributing toward the education of people around the world.
My personal field of interest is in wealth creation education and obviously you have some interest in being educated in this area, but your skills might be in other areas.
This means that you have to take the skills you learn here and apply it in the process of sharing whatever skills you have.
It doesn't matter whether you have skills in parenting, raising ferrets or underwater basket weaving…
… you just need to look for an audience of people who are interested and provide them with the information they are looking for.
Clearly I'm in the mood for debunking crazy thinking this morning, so while I'm on a roll…
If you are thinking anything like this: “but I don't know anything” … or “but there are other people who know way more about this subject than me – how can I compete with that?”, allow me to fix you…
Most people who buy a book on a subject (if they are really interested) will buy more than one…
Most people need to hear information 7 times or more in different ways before they begin to really understand it…
and everybody was a beginner in something at some point and needed to learn the skills form somewhere, and they needed to start from the beginning before they progressed to the advanced stuff.
Somewhere along the way you will be able to slot your information in to reach your target audience, at whatever level they are at.
Ok Rant over.
In a way it doesn't matter what your subject is – that's not the point.
There are a ton of people out there who are experts in all kind of subjects but unless they have the right education in online marketing they're probably not going to get far selling their material.
Yet those with the right education can take almost anything and sell it like hotcakes (I don't know what hotcakes are but obviously people like them a lot!)
I still think you should have a good product and strive to be in alignment with it but none of that will help you make money online if you don't know the basics of how to do that.
